LIMITED LATE MODEL RULES

2005 RACING SEASON

 

In order to benefit the Limited Late Model Drivers we have adopted the same rules as the SARA Late Model Series.

 

The Track reserves the right to add, delete or modify these rules.  The Director of Race Operations and / or Competition Director shall be empowered to permit minor deviations from any of the specifications or impose any further restrictions that in his opinion do not alter the minimum acceptable requirements.

 

Interpretation:  Our interpretation of an OEM production part will be as follows.  The part was available on a new vehicle for sale to the general public at a new vehicle       dealership. This does not include the following Chevrolet Bowtie, Ford Motorsports-SVO or Mopar- Direct Connection.

 

A. ELIGIBLE CAR MODELS

1)  Any Track Limited Late Model approved coupe or sedan.  All cars shall be stock front clip frame car.  Approved Ford and Chrysler models may use uni-body chassis.

 

Frame and engine shall remain within the manufacturers line, Ford may run Camaro front clip.

 

2)  Stock front clip only.  No compacts. No sports cars. No trucks. Camaros and Firebirds are approved.

 

  1. Minimum wheel base is 105 inches.  “1 inch tolerance”
  2. MAXIMUM tread width (front and rear) must not exceed 69 inches from center of tire to center of left tire.  “Measurement may be taken form inside of left tire to outside of right tire.

3)  Frame must maintain stock dimensions from in front of suspension and sway bar mounts in front to beginning of side rails.  Minimum frame rail length from center of sway bar forward, 5 inches.  Minimum frame rail length form center of sway bar rearward, 38 inches.

 

B. BODY

 

1)      All bodies shall be new like new fiberglass, asphalt Late Model style after market race bodies within the manufacturer line.  Stock dimensions shall be maintained per the latest edition ARP Tech Manual.  The body shall remain symmetrical.  No perceptible offset bodies.  Roof and Deck Lid shall not be lowered or dished.  NO EXCEPTIONS.  Maximum 10 inch vent window allowed.  No window trays of any kind.

2)      Windshields front and rear are required.  Inside windows bracing is MANDATORY.  All race cars shall use LEXAN (brand) plastic for all windshield and windows.  Side door window openings must maintain standard height and minimum of 24 inches width.

3)      Entire interior must be enclosed with metal from front to rear firewall.  Drivers tub and vertical pieces must be minimum .22 gauge steel.  Floor may be angled from drive shaft tunnel to top of right door bars.

4)      Rear spoiler maximums:  5 inches high by 60 inches wide of material.  No rudders, wire braces, etc on spoiler.

5)      All deck lids shall be open for inspection.  Minimum opening 10” x 30”.

6)      Front and rear bumpers shall be reinforced form inside only.  Bumpers shall be sufficient to push race vehicle.

7)      Cowl type air boxes allowed.  The hood shall fit properly at the rear.  Opening must be more than 3 inches by twenty inches and may be cut in rear of hood panel for fresh entry.  Nothing shall face forward.

8)      NO extended jack pads.

 

C. ENGINES

 

1)  Block:  All engine blocks shall be stock, unmodified, OEM production cast iron blocks only.  No more than .060 over bore is allowed.  Tolerance of .010 is allowed for wear only.  Chevrolet Cast Iron BOWTIE BLOCKS OK.

Aftermarket main bearing caps allowed

Lifter bore bushings allowed.  No oversized lifters

Minor enhancements only.  EXAMPLE: Oil drain screen allowed

 

2)  Crankshaft:  No knife edge crank is allowed.  Stroke must be stock per manufacturers specifications for the stock block used.  EXAMPLE: 350 Chevrolet = 3.48 inch stroke.  NO TOLERANCE 2002 Season.

 

3)  Connecting rods:  Steel connecting rods are engine builder’s option.

 

4)  Cam Shaft:  Any flat tappet cam allowed.  No roller cams.  No roller lifters or mushroom lifters.  OEM Type Steel Lifters only.

 

5)  Ignition:  Stock type distributor or single coil MSD ignitions only.  Stock firing order only.

 

6)  Carburetor:  Shall be stock, unmodified, HOLLEY 2300 series Model #4412/500 CFM 2 barrel carburetor only.  Choke plate may be removed.  Any jets, any power valve or idle holes allowed.  No other modifications allowed.  Must fit Track Limited Late Model inspection tools with carburetor hot or cold.  No exception tolerance.  No electrical driven or belt driven fuel pumps are allowed.  Maximum carburetor spacer/ adapter thickness shall be 1 1/2 inches plus two gaskets a maximum of .050 inches each.  Complete air filter is MANDATORY at all times.

 

7)  Exhaust Systems:  Headers are approved.  Any cross-over type header system may be used.  May run a two-into-one fitting prior to a muffler.  No balance pipe.  Series approved mufflers are MANDATORY at all tracks.

 

8)  Oiling Systems:  Wet sump systems only.  No dry sump.  No belt driven oil pump(s).  Oil pan style is open.  Oil coolers are allowed.  Oil pans must have minimum of 2 inch by 2 inch removable plate on side or 1 inch round plug to line up with rod to allow access for inspection.  Basic oiling system modifications allowed.

 

9)  Water Pump:  Aluminum water pumps are approved.

 

10_ Drives:  No gear drives or belt systems are allowed.

 

11)  Accessories and Fasteners:  Plug wire, valve covers, rocker stud locking nuts, dual roller timing chain and aftermarket fasteners are approved.

 

12)  Coolant:  Shall have an engine coolant recovery canister in good working order.  NO EXCEPTIONS.  No anti-freeze allowed.

 

13)  Starter:  Each race car shall have a working self start.  The battery shall be on board and mounted in front of the rear wheels, inside the frame rail.

 

14)  Engine Location: 

a)  The #1 spark plug shall be even with, or ahead of the closest front upper ball joint.

b)  Minimum engine height 11 inches, measured from center of crank shaft to the ground.

c)  For and Chrysler #1 spark plug hole can be set back 2 inches form the front upper working ball joint.

 

15) Mounts:  Engine and transmission mounts are builder’s option.

 

16) Cylinder Heads:  Shall be OEM production cast iron or World Products “I-052” casting heads.  Straight plug heads only.  Bowtie heads ok.  No porting.  No polishing.  No matching.  The standard three angle valve job is approved.  No angle may be more than 80 degrees.  You may machine for big valves ONLY.  No flow enhancing work allowed in the bowl area.  Screw-in studs and guide plates are approved.

 

CHEVROLET:

No angle plug heads.  Worlds Products I-052 castings ok.

FORD: 

World Products Windsor Jr I-056 castings ok.

Ford Motorsports- SVO GT 40 #M-6049-L302 (bare) and #M-6049-L303 (complete).

Ford Motorsports- SVO #M6049-N351 (bare) and #M6049-R351 (complete).

Additional weight penalties may be imposed to enhance competition.

 

CHRYSLER:  Direct Connection Parts- P452994, P452995, P4529446, P5249769, P4529269, P5249767, P5249573, P5249574.

 

STOCK CYLINDER HEADS AND THE ABOVE LISTED HEADS ARE ONLY APPROVED CYLINDER HEADS.

 

17)  Valves:  Shall be stock specification replacement valves only.  Stainless steel valves approved.  Titanium valves are not allowed.  Titanium retainers and keepers allowed.

 

MAXIMUM VALVE SIZE

18)  Valve Springs:  Springs are engine builder’s option.

 

19)  Pistons:  Shall be flat top.

 

20) Intake Manifold:  Shall be stock, passenger car, unmodified cast iron only.

Chevrolet Cast Iron Bowtie intake manifold is approved.

Edelbrock Performer RPM #7101 (Regular Heads).

Edelbrock Performer RPM #7116 (Vortex Heads).

No interchanging of intake manifolds allowed.  Bowtie intake allowed on either head.

Ford and Chrysler may use stock factory aluminum intake manifolds or Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold.

Ford 351 W engine may also use Ford Motorsports-SVO intake manifold part #M-9424-Z351.

Chrysler Edelbrock part #7176.

 

21)  Roller Rockers:  Roller rockers, poly-locks and girdles are allowed.

 

D.  GENERAL SAFETY:

The following items are mandatory, no car will be allowed to race without them.

 

  1. Racing type aluminum seat, mounted to roll cage.  Must have padded headrest with a minimum of 16 square inches.
  2. Fire extinguisher, with gauge in working order.  Must be mounted in upright position and easily removed.  No taping to roll cage.  On board fire extinguishing system recommended.
  3. Approved seat belts and shoulder harness, minimum of 3 inches in width, mounted to roll cage.  5 point system.  Must not exceed 5 years old.
  4. SFI type window net, on driver’s side.  Must unhook at top only with seat belt type latch.
  5. Approved fire safety ex: (SFI) suit, helmet, gloves, and shoes.  These items must be worn anytime car is on the track.
  6. Full 4 post roll cage, no offsets.  Approved roll cage is 1 ¾” OD x .095” wall round steel tubing.  4 horizontal door bars on driver’s side.  3 horizontal bars on passenger side, all welds gusseted.  Cars with any other configuration must be approved and recorded by chief technical inspector prior to entering race track for any reason.  No 1 ½” OD cages.  Also see Section #4 ROLL CAGE: herein.
  7. Throttle toe strap on mechanical linkage cars.  Cable linkage cars must use 2 return springs.
  8. Safety loops around drive shaft.  One 12 inches bask from front u-joint, one at the rear.  Drive shaft must be painted white.  No aluminum drive shafts.
  9. Must have transmission shifter.  No push-pull rods.
  10. Radiator overflow catch can, 1 gallon mounted in front of firewall.
  11. Battery location optional must be securely mounted.  If in driver’s compartment it must be in marine type plastic box with top.  Approval by Tech.
  12. All ballast must be securely bolted with (2) ½” bolts for each 50 lbs of weight.  Must be painted white and numbered to car.
  13. A quick release steering wheel is required.  Steering wheel center must be padded.
  14. Ignition switch must be push-pull type within easy reach of driver.
  15. Master battery disconnect switch, mounted at window level behind driver.
  16. Brake shall be in good race condition and in working order at all times.  Disc with dual master cylinder and/or brake bias adjustments are approved.  Single piston caliper only.

 

E. HEIGHTS:

 

1)      The minimum ground clearance shall be four inches at the frame rails and body rails without the driver.  This includes quarter panels and weight boxes, if any.  In other words… four inches and that’s it.  Ground clearance may be checked at any time before during or after any portion of the event.

2)      Fuel cell shall maintain a minimum ten inches ground clearance.  NO EXCEPTIONS.

 

F.  QUALIFYING CONDITIONS:

 

1)  Vehicles must qualify in race ready condition.  Vehicles will start the race as qualified.  Any changes will result in a starting position at the rear of the field.  Can tape to qualify.

 

G.  SUSPENSION:

 

1)      After market upper A frames are approved.

2)      Any racing shock absorber is permitted.  No more than one shock absorber per wheel.  Shock absorber mounting is optional.  No coilovers allowed.  No electronic controlled shock absorber allowed.  Remote reservoir adjustable shocks must have the adjuster mounted within six (inches) of the shock absorber.

3)      Sway bars may be used with adjustable link on both ends.  Frame mount shall be in the stock location for the frame used.  Eye bolt type hangers on frame approved.

4)      Wedge bolts are approved.  Rack and pinion steering ok with 50 lbs. of total weight in front of flywheel.

5)      Front spindles shall be after-math, solid cast or tubular spindles only.  No lightweight spindles allowed.  Any OEM spindle may be altered.  Tie rod ends may be tubular with steel Helm ends.

6)      Front upper and lower control arm mounting points are optional.

7)      Pan hard bars allowed.  The upper link may be any length as long as not further forward than scat bar or extending into driver’s compartment.  Steel helm ends are approved.  Rubber bushings and spring devices approved.

8)      The springs are allowed to interchange.  Adapters may be used on rear spring mounts to hold springs in place only.  Spring buckets may only be raised for clearance.  4 inch minimum spring diameter on rear springs.

9)      No adjustments can be made from within the driver’s compartment.  Manual brake bias adjustment is allowed.

 

H. TRANSMISSION/ DRIVE TRAIN:

 

1)      Any OEM three (3), four (4), or five (5) speed standard transmission will be allowed.  Automatic transmissions are not allowed.  No Jericho, Bert or SVO Ford Motorsports.  All cars must have reverse and must be able to be put in reverse from driver’s seat.  They will be checked.

2)      Clutch shall be conventional assembly only.  Multiple disc clutches will be allowed.  Clutch must maintain minimum 7 1/4 “diameter.  No aluminum pressure plates.  No aluminum flywheels.  Steel clutch and pressure plate only.  Steel scatter shield or flak blanket not required with multi-disc clutch.

3)      Any car not totally complying with these rules may be allowed to run with added weight penalty at the Technical Inspector’s discretion.

 

I.  WEIGHT:

 

1)      All race cars shall be weighted with the driver in race ready attire.  There shall be NO EXCEPTIONS.  365 cid and less shall weigh a minimum of 2900 lbs. prior to competition.  366 cid and less shall weigh a minimum of 3000 lbs. prior to competition.  In a normal 25 lap race 1% allowance for fuel burnoff.

2)      Maximum of 56% of the total weight of the car will be on the left side, checked at any time before, during or after time trials and/ or racing event with driver sitting in normal driving position with helmet and driving uniform.

3)      Any car not totally complying with these rules may be allowed to run with added weight penalty at the Technical Inspector’s discretion.

 

J.  TIRES AND WHEELS:

 

1)      Steel racing type wheels only.  Maximum 10 inches wide.

2)      5/8” wheel studs MANDATORY.  All lugs must be in place, no broken or stripped studs.

3)      May use wide five adapters, steel only, and minimum ½” thick.

4)      Current track approved tires only, must have HIALEAH SPEEDWAY brand on sidewall.

5)      No tire softener allowed.  Tires must not measure softer than 52 as measured by track durometer with tire hot.

6)      Maximum tread width (front & rear) must not exceed 69 inches from center of right tire, to center of left tire.

 

K.  FUEL:

 

1)      Only track approved racing gasoline allowed.  A minimum of 10 gallons of fuel must be purchased from HIALEAH SPEEDWAY pumps.  No additives of any kind.

2)      Racing fuel cell required.  Must be mounted behind rear end in steel container, not to exceed 22 gallons, with working check valve.  Fuel cell must be 4 inches ahead of rear bumper and no part of cell may be lower than protection bar.  Cell must have protection bar at rear no wider than 6 inches on both sides.  Minimum ground clearance of cell 10 inches.

3)      No electric fuel pumps.

 

L.  EXHAUST:

 

1)      Headers optional, any type

2)      Mufflers OPTIONAL, minimum body length 12 inches.  Must be functional.

3)      Exhaust must exit out the rear of passenger side door, in front of rear wheel or under car.

4)      Exhaust pipe may be more than ½” from body.

 

M.  RADIOS:

 

1)  Two way communications between driver and spotter only.  Must not be on same frequencies used by HIALEAH SPEEDWAY.

 

NOTE:  IF THESE CURRENT RULES DO NOT STATE YOU CAN DO IT, CHECK WITH TECH FIRST.  ALSO READ GENERAL RULES THEY APPLY TO THIS DIVISION ALSO.

 

DISCLAIMER: Variations to these rules may be allowed for visiting racers at track’s discretion.  In the spirit of equalizing competition, changes may be made to these rules as needed with a minimum of 1 week’s notice.  Notice of any rule amendment or changes shall be verbal in driver’s meeting which may be called during any event and/ or written notice passed to each attending competitor at that week’s event.

 

Hialeah Speedway Limited Late Model Rule Addendum

 

 

SUBJECT:  Late Models (or Super Late Models) racing with Limited Late Models on regular Saturday night events:

 

Late Models MUST run with #4412 Holley 2 Barrel Carburetor

Late Models MUST add 100 lbs to compete with Limited Late Models for a total weight of 3075 lbs after race.  50 lbs of extra, 100 lb weight must be ahead of the flywheel.

 

Steering wheel pads ARE MANDATORY, NO EXCEPTIONS

 

Pre- tech for Late Models running with Limited Late Models is MANDATORY.
