Hialeah Speedway Mini Stock Rules 2005
Interpretation of all rules is left to the discretion of the Miami Speedway as to the spirit and intent of the rules herein. If it doesn’t say to do it, the absence of a specific rule does not imply consent, approval or permission regarding the subject. If you don’t read about it, don’t touch it or change it in any way or you will be illegal. Definition of STOCK means no modifications to factory parts or factory specifications. Any questions or doubts regarding such matters should be directed to an Miami Speedway official. The Miami Speedway Management will make any further definitions and interpretations of these rules. Effective date January 1, 2004.
A. Eligible Car Models
1) Any Miami Speedway approved sedan, hatchback, and subcompact or compact from 1972 to current model year of American or foreign make.
2) All parts and dimensions as originally produced unless otherwise stated herein.
B. Wheelbase
1) Maximum factory wheelbase car allowed is 101 inches.
C. Bodies:
1) Front and/ or rear fenders may be cut for tire clearance.
2) Cutting of inside paneling is allowed in the doors, hood and deck lid. Cutting must be confined to the areas forward of the front spindle and behind the rear axle only. Cuts must not weaken the uni-body frame.
3) Front fire wall and floor pan must remain stock and be in original position.
A) Access panel permitted for brake and clutch master cylinders.
B) Firewall may be cut and boxed for header clearance.
4) Full rear firewall must be installed to cover any opening, hatchbacks included. NO EXCEPTIONS. Firewall must be made of .040 ferrous sheet metal and must be approved by Miami Speedway inspectors. No sheet aluminum permitted.
5) Remove all factory glass except windshield. Lexan windshield and/ or windows optional. Any side window must maintain a minimum 24 inch long clear opening for entry/ exit.
6) Roll bar tubing may be used for reinforcement ahead of the front roll bar hoop and behind the rear hoop and must be in conjunction with the stock frame and uni-body parts.
7) NERF bars or sidebars must not protrude past the outside edge of the front or rear tires.
8) Bumpers may be stock or aluminum type and may be reinforced from the inside only. Bumper height of 15 inches, plus or minus 2 inches measured from center of car/ bumper must be maintained. Bumpers must not be wider than the fenders (front and rear) with 2 inch tolerance.
9) Any radiator is allowed. It must fit inside stock body.
10) Engine CC must be clearly put on hood along with P for ported head or NP for non-ported head
11) Cars may leave OEM body parts or fabricated aftermarket pieces. These include fenders, doors, hood, trunk or hatch and roofs. They MUST conform to stock body lines and dimensions.
a) No fender flares allowed.
b) Aftermarket bodies OPTIONAL. Stock appearing only. No wedge noses or bodies. No offset bodies
12) Cars may have either front plastic noses (not to exceed 4” in front of bumper) or all front sheet metal as originally produced
13) Car will be allowed plastic side skirts (optional steel) with minimum ground clearance of 4 inches.
14) Rear spoilers are allowed with a maximum 5” height times the car width, spoilers can be made of Lexan, steel or aluminum. Adjustable spoilers are optional.
D. Suspension:
1) Tubular aftermarket upper and lower control arms are allowed but they must use stock mounts in their stock locations.
2) Top struts may be moved for adjustments.
3) Strut suspensions must remain struts.
4) No coil-over shock systems allowed.
5) Shocks and mounts are the builder’s option. One working shock per wheel only.
6) Helm ends are allowed for suspension and steering linkages.
7) Springs are optional but must be same spring systems as OEM. Example, Leaf springs must stay leaf springs, etc.
a) Adjustment of springs is allowed
8) Rear panhard bars are allowed.
9) Wheelbase must remain within 2” of stock dimensions.
E. Wheels:
1) Any steel wheel is allowed. Maximum wheel width is 8 inches. Maximum inset is on-inch measured from the back of the wheel lip to the back of the wheel center.
2) No wheel spacers allowed.
F. Tire:
1) Current Miami Speedway approved tires only.
G. Engines:
1) Any 4 cylinder inline engine that came as standard equipment in any eligible car in this class. Engine size is builder’s option.
2) Engines may be interchanged between approved manufacturer’s models.
3) No rotary engines of any kind will be allowed.
4) No turbochargers or superchargers allowed.
5) Electronic fuel injection is not permitted.
6) Racing cams and components of flat tappet style are allowed. No roller tappets will be permitted.
7) All engines must use stock size heads for stock block.
8) DOHC cylinder heads are not permitted.
9) Cylinder heads with stock size intake and exhaust valve, no more than one each per cylinder will receive 100 lb weight break.
Valve sizes allowed:
Ford 2000 Intake 1.750” Exhaust 1.500”
Ford 2300 Intake 1.750” Exhaust 1.500”
Toyota 20R Intake 1.690” Exhaust 1.420”
Toyota 22R Intake 1.779” Exhaust 1.450”
Chevrolet 151 (GM) Intake 1.720” Exhaust 1.60”
Chevrolet (Vega) Intake 1.625” Exhaust 1.375”
10) One spark plug per cylinder only.
11) No aftermarket cylinder heads are allowed.
12) Cylinder heads may be ported but no welding or sectioning is allowed.
13) Stock intake manifold must be used.
a) Intake may be ported but not sectioned (cut open) to do so.
b) Intakes may not have welded adapters or ports.
14. Engines may use steel crankshafts and forged pistons. No billet crankshafts allowed.
15. Pistons may be aftermarket manufacturer’s but stock style configuration.
16. Connecting rods may be stock or aftermarket forged steel of stock configuration and length. No billet steel, aluminum or titanium rods are allowed.
a) Oil pans, pumps and pickups may be modified or aftermarket designs.
b) Exhaust headers are optional. Exhaust must run to the underside of the car or through the firewall if boxed in.
c) All cars must have a working coolant and engine recovery system.
17. Carburetor
a) Holley 2 barrel #4412 is the only acceptable carburetor allowed. Carburetor may be modified as follows:
1. Jet sizes.
2. Power Valves.
3. Remove choke and choke linkage.
4. Idle holes may be drilled in butterflies.
5. All carburetors must fit track gauges.
18. Carburetor spacers
a) No spacer/ adapter shall exceed 1 ¼ “in height (not including gaskets).
b) Spacer/ adapter type is builder’s option.
19. Air filters
a) Filter height shall not exceed 4” above the surface of the hood.
b) Filter type is builder’s option.
c) Hoods may be cut for filter clearance only. No air scoops will be allowed.
H. Drive Train:
a) Any OEM transmission acceptable.
b) Internal modifications optional.
c) NO aftermarket transmissions allowed.
d) Transmissions may be interchanged between approved manufacturer’s lines.
a) Brakes must function on all four wheels.
b) Interchange front brakes are manufacturer’s line only.
c) The use of aftermarket brake and clutch pedals will be allowed when used with the OEM master cylinders and OEM proportioning valve.
a) Any stock steel flywheel, clutch and pressure plate acceptable.
b) No aluminum flywheels permitted.
c) No multi-disc or mini clutches allowed.
d) An inspection holes of a minimum 1 ½ “must be cut in the bell housing for clutch/ flywheel inspection.
a) Two wheel drive systems only (rear wheel drive)
b) Rear end assemblies must be OEM
c) No aftermarket rear ends allowed.
d) Rear ends may be locked and use aftermarket internal parts.
e) Rear ends may be interchanged between approved manufacturer’s lines. No external alterations are permitted.
I Fuel:
J. Weight:
Option: Stock unported head- 100 lb. weight break. Ported head or over sized valve up to .100 over, car must weigh 1 lb per cc.
K. Safety:
1. Fuel cells.
a) All fuel cells must be encased in a minimum .22 gauge steel container located in the trunk area of the car.
b) All fuel cells must be installed with steel safety straps that pass under and over cell from side to side and from front to rear. These straps must be securely fastened to the frame rail.
c) Fuel cells must be protected from all sides.
d) Fuel cells must have a check valve in the vent line.
e) No rigid spouts or pipe shall pass through the body.
f) Maximum capacity of any fuel cell is 12 gallons (US).
g) Minimum ground clearance of fuel cells is 10 inches, measured at any point.
a) Battery must be securely mounted in front of the rear axle and inside frame rail
b) Battery must be covered to prevent possible shorts, debris and damage.
c) A battery shut off switch must be installed in an accessible position in case of emergency.
a) Drive shaft must have a hoop mounted 6 inches behind front universal joint.
b) Drive shafts must be painted white or an acceptable bright color.
a) All ballast must be securely bolted through the frame with at least one half inch bolt per 50 pounds.
b) All ballast must be painted white with race car number on it.
a) Roll bars must be complete cage type with at least 3 side bars on the left side and 2 side bars on the right side. At least 2 vertical bars must be installed between all sidebars. There must be 2 bars installed diagonally from the top main hoop to the rear frame rails. All welds must have gussets. Front frame section hoops mandatory. Front upright bar shall not be more than 6 inches behind the stock windshield post measured at any point. Left door bars must extend to the outer door skin, right door bars may be even with frame rail on the right side.
b) All main roll cage bars must be a minimum of .090 wall thickness steel tubing as approved by Miami Speedway.
c) Cars must have an aluminum racing seat mounted in front of main roll bar hoop.
d) Uni-body cars must have a 3’10” x 6” x 6” (3 feet 10 inch by 6 inches by 6 inches) steel plate installed on the floor pan or a steel angle 1 foot 8 inch by 1 ½ inches installed down the side of the driver’s compartment before welding the cage into place.
a) Mandatory on all makes and models NO EXCEPTIONS.
K. Inspection Rules.
1. In order to police the weight, engine size rule the following inspection rules will be mandatory for all cars in the mini stock division.
a) Top five point’s leaders will be required to prove engine displacements (teardown) at least once during each point’s season. The time of this inspection will be at the Speedway’s discretion and there will be no advance notice.
b) Any cars found illegal will forfeit their accumulated points for that season and be fined the amount of their total winnings up to that point in the point’s season.
c) Also, the illegal car must prove engine size before competing in any further Miami Speedway events at the Speedway. This rule also applies to any other infraction found by Miami Speedway inspectors.
d) Interpretations of all mini stock division rules are left to the discretion of the Miami Speedway officials as to the spirit and the intent of the rules herein.
